Introducing the Organ
The Bromley and Croydon Organists Association is very pleased to announce a new education initiative for 2021 in memory of Christian Strover, a distinguished organist and music educator. Christian was for many years Organist at Christ Church Beckenham and Director of Music at Emanuel School, being a long-standing member of our society
The BCOA’s principal aim is to promote and support organ-playing.
Our ‘Introducing the Organ’ scheme is a wonderful opportunity for organ enthusiasts (or keyboard players) to learn about a truly fascinating instrument. Expert tuition and advice will be offered in the form of beginner organ lessons and students will benefit from the knowledge and support of our society. We hope that for some, our scheme will present the first step to discovering a life-long passion!
There are no age limits to those wanting to apply. We suggest that musicians who can play the piano / keyboard to around grade 5+ standard will get the most out of the scheme – although all applications will be considered. ‘Introducing the organ’ is primarily designed for people who haven’t had any organ lessons previously, although organists in cases of need may be considered.
There are five awards of £250 available this year. They are designed to cover the cost of music and organ lessons with a BCOA appointed tutor or other approved teacher. Successful applicants will be invited to meet with the committee before organ lessons commence.
If you’ve ever wondered what all the buttons do, how many pipes there are or how anyone can play music with your feet – now is your chance to find out and have a go! Thank you for your interest and we welcome your application. Please return your online form to:
