Introducing the Organ
We are a society of organists whose aim is to promote wider interest in what Mozart called ‘The King of Instruments’.
To this end we are offering free organ tuition to the value of £300 for beginner organists aged from 8 to 21. Expert tuition and advice will be offered to students, supported by our society.
In addition to free organ lessons, award-holders have benefitted from a workshop and presentation of certificates with distinguished organists, including Anna Lapwood. Similar events are planned for new award holders.
Students who can play the piano to around grade 5 standard will quickly adjust to organ playing – but all applications will be seriously considered.
There are five awards of £300 available for 2023 – 2024. They are designed to cover the cost of organ lessons with a BCOA appointed tutor or another approved teacher.
So that we can get you started quickly, send in your form as soon as possible to Jonathan Holmes, President of the association, Director of music at St. Mary’s Ewell and organist of Epsom College who will be organising the award scheme on behalf of the Bromley and Croydon Organists association.
The awards are named in recognition of the late Christian Strover, a distinguished organist, composer and music educator who was for many years Organist at Christ Church, Beckenham, Director of Music at Emanuel School, and a long standing member of our society.
If you’ve ever wondered what all the buttons do, how many pipes there are or how anyone can play music with their feet, now is your chance to find out and have a go! Thank you for your interest and we welcome your application.
